Deputies on Friday afternoon pulled over 39-year-old Randolph Brown in DeLeon Springs. Brown was wanted in nearby Lake County for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, cops say.
Body camera footage shows at least two police cruisers boxing in Brown’s car during the traffic stop. Deputies have their guns drawn and ordered Brown out of his car.
“Keep your hands up or you will get shot,” one deputy shouts.
Brown at first complies and has his hands out of the window.“Sir, what did I do?,” he yells.“You’re under arrest. Now get out of the car,” another deputy commands. At this point, Brown allegedly decides he’s done complying.
He allegedly rolls up his window, backs up, striking one of the deputy cruisers, drives around the police car in front and off he goes. A police helicopter above the scene shows Brown allegedly speed away. The video then cuts to an officer throwing out stop sticks. Brown allegedly ran over them and spun around. He regained control and continued fleeing deputies, according to police.
Next, he allegedly sped through a stop light, narrowly avoiding cars going through the intersection.
Deputies again threw out stop sticks, but this time Brown allegedly avoids them by swerving into oncoming traffic. Brown speeds down the wrong way before going back in the right direction, police say. He weaved in and out of stopped traffic and again goes the wrong way, per the video. He even allegedly blasted through a roundabout.
Finally, Brown purportedly approaches a construction zone with cars stopped at a red light. He allegedly tries to avoid the cars, but then slams into a vehicle which crashes into a SUV, according to the video. Brown allegedly gets out of his car and begins to run away. Enter police dog Red.
The canine can be seen chasing Brown and taking him down to the ground, according to cops. Deputies then arrest him.
The suspect stands accused of aggravated fleeing, battery on law enforcement officers, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on law enforcement officers, among other charges. He’s at the Volusia County Jail without bond. Cops say he has fled from Volusia deputies in the past. Two of the drivers Brown allegedly hit said they suffered from neck pain.
