For 4 years, family searched for answers after woman vanished—now, they finally have one, but it’s not the outcome they had hoped for.

The remains of a missing Indiana woman have been found more than four years after she vanished, authorities said.

On Wednesday, Feb. 5, police in Portage, Ind. confirmed that remains “recently” found in the city, about 40 miles outside Chicago, were that of Shannon Orton, according to a press release shared on Facebook.

Authorities did not provide further details about the discovery of the remains. Police said Orton went missing from Cressmoor Mobile Home Park in Hobart, Ind., about 7 miles away, in the summer of 2020.

Police said multiple suspects are being considered as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities declined to comment further on the case when reached by PEOPLE on Thursday, Feb. 3.
